1 post. ₹45,599 per month. Placement under HPTDB, PIU Shimla. You need B.Tech/B.E. Civil with 1 year experience or a 3-year diploma with 3 years experience. CAD and MS Office knowledge helps.

Assistant Account Officer

Eligibility Criteria – Let’s Be Honest About Who Can Apply

I went through every post’s educational and experience requirement one by one because the official language can feel dense.

For engineering posts (Junior Engineer Civil, Instrumentation Engineer, Draftsman), the combination of degree/diploma + relevant years of experience is non-negotiable. They will check your experience letters carefully.

For the accounts role, Tally is not optional. If your resume doesn’t clearly show Tally experience, don’t waste the travel.

The Environmental Specialist post is the most senior. Five years of EIA work is a serious filter.

The IT Professional role is interesting for geography, forestry or physics post-graduates who have picked up GIS skills, or for CS/IT graduates with two years of actual software/GIS work.

Operator and Lab Technician posts are more accessible if you have the right ITI or certificate course plus the required years of hands-on work.

Upper age limit is 45 years across the board as per applicable norms. Category and domicile certificates matter if you are seeking any state relaxation.

How the Selection Actually Works on Walk-in Day

This is not a written exam followed by interview months later. Everything happens on the same day.

You arrive, get your documents verified, they score your academics and experience, and then you face a personal interview. The board will test domain knowledge related to the post, how well you understand Himachal-specific project work, problem-solving ability, and whether you can join quickly.

Because it’s a walk-in, the registration desk can close once they have enough candidates or once verification is in full swing. The official time is 11:00 AM, but from everything I’ve seen in similar Himachal walk-ins, reaching by 9:30 AM is the smart move. Give yourself time to find the Sector-1 office, stand in the document queue, and get your application form filled if you didn’t download it earlier.

Documents You Must Carry – No Compromises

I made a checklist for myself and I’m sharing it exactly:

• Prescribed application form (download from nrtc.hp.gov.in or fill at the desk)
• At least 3 recent passport-size photographs
• Date of birth proof (10th certificate or birth certificate)
• All mark sheets and degree/diploma certificates (original + one self-attested set)

My Practical Advice for Students Preparing for This

First, be realistic about the nature of the job. These are project-tied contracts. Regularisation is generally not on the table. Treat it as paid, relevant experience that can strengthen your profile for future permanent roles or higher studies.

Second, match your documents to the exact experience numbers mentioned. If the post asks for 3 years and you have 2 years 8 months, be prepared to explain the gap honestly rather than stretching numbers.

Third, if you’re applying for any of the higher posts (JE, Accounts, Instrumentation, Environmental), brush up on the practical side of the work. For JE Civil they may ask about site challenges in hilly areas. For Accounts they will almost certainly test Tally knowledge. For Food Tech roles they care about actual plant operations.

Fourth, location matters. Some posts are in Shimla (HPTDB), some in Parala or Parwanoo (HPMC). Think about whether you can stay there for the project duration.
